My Photography Blog

Welcome! For some people, blogging is as simple as breathing. Their words flow easily, or at least, that’s the way it appears. I suspect I know better. Supposedly Red Smith said, “Writing is easy. You just open a vein and bleed.” Despite having worked with words as a public relations practitioner and having once been an English major, I often find writing a torturous exercise.

I understand now that it’s often no my own judgment causing my writer’s block but the imaginary judges in my mind. It’s why I believe a good photograph should say enough or lend itself to interpretation and not need words except to maybe identify time and place.

An artist starts with a blank canvas. A photographer starts with what’s in front of a lens.

“When words become unclear, I shall focus with photographs. When images become inadequate, I shall be content with silence.”
